The Monteer 8000s is new this season and it’s the most powerful in the Monteer line that features the 3500, 5000, 6500 and now the 8000s that each indicate their claimed lumen output. The Monteer 6500 won a few awards last year from different mountain bike publications so we made sure to give this new 8000s a proper test.
This is a landmark light because of a few things but the greatest attribute to note is the quality of construction of the light and the consistency of the beam pattern. Materials are first-rate and it really is a polished engineering piece. The beam pattern is very clean, even, and wide. It is free of artifacts and it doesn’t end abruptly at the edges.
The brightness is staggering at it is about 3 times brighter than most car headlights. Many will not need this level of brightness so they can save money with the lower-cost options on the Monteer line. But the 12 hours of run-time at 1000 lumen Eco mode is really convenient and usable. It’s a great convenience when one does not need to fully charge one’s bike lights every single ride. And when the situation calls for it, it’s really useful and fun to have 8000 lumens of light at one’s disposal. It’s like having 450hp under the hood. It’s not needed but it’s fun and handy.
It’s $400 but for the quality, usability, and lumens per dollar, it’s actually a good value.

Magicshine MTB light Monteer 8000s Galaxy is our latest model in the Monteer line. Maximum of 8000 actual lumens is produced by 5x CREE XHP50 LEDs, with the top row beaming out with a spread of 32 degrees complemented by a more focused beam from the bottom LEDs at 21 degrees spread. On full beam mode the light is evenly distributed throughout the entire effective visual range, illuminating every rock, puddle, roots and branches.
Magicshine Monteer 8000s is constructed with highest quality materials and workmanship. IPX5 water resistant rating. Most of the light body has been built into an aluminum alloy heatsink for maximum heat dissipation. Under situations where cooling couldn’t keep up, the thermal protection will kick in to throttle max output so the vital components are protected. Magicshine MTB light models are designed to achieve and sustain its max lumen output during cool temperatures at medium to fast speeds.
The 7.2V 10,000 mAh battery pack uses 4x highest quality 5000mAh capacity Li-ion cells for a total capacity of 10,000mAh capacity. With a single Type-C port for the battery pack supports 5V/3A, 9V/2A and 12V/1.5A input and output with USB Power Delivery protocol, able to power a variety of devices. MJ-6118 battery pack comes default with Monteer 6500s and Monteer 8000s.
On a full charge, the Monteer 8000S is able to be sustained at its max brightness setting for up to 1:30 hours. Back lit control button wills show green when the battery power is above 20%, red between 5-20% remaining and flashing red at less than 5% remaining. Note: The light’s intensity mode will lock into the lowest setting when the power is 5% or less.
